It’s Easy

I lied. The word today is one of the ones I said I wouldn’t do, but it’s been on my mind all week for a lot of reasons. And that’s okay… because, of course, it’s all you need.

—————————————————————————————————–

And now for something completely different… I have a couple of pieces published elsewhere I’d like to share (for anyone who doesn’t follow me on Twitter (hi, mom!)… The first is my latest Vagina Monologues update and the second is something totally different called “Invisible.”

Something New

I’m doing two posts today. One is at isca media. There, I’m talking about the Vagina Monologues, and my girlfriend angst, and the idea that there might be gold in each of us. It’s a cool post. Please go read me.

Here, I’m talking about isca media because the more I work with them, the more excited I become, and the more I want to share how cool they are. I haven’t written too much before because, to tell you the truth, isca media is a little hard to explain. They do not fit nicely into a category, and so when I’m asked about them, I tend to run all over my answer in puppy-like fashion. Seriously, don’t expect anything different now, but here goes.

From the website: isca media “is a collective of independent, freelance journalists, writers, photographers, publishers and filmmakers.” I like that. It’s what initially attracted me. The word “collective,” the emphasis on community and creative collaboration. Oh, and the fact that isca media co-founder Luke James is very funny. And very passionate. He wants to change the world… and I’m only exaggerating a little.

The commercial side of isca focuses on filmmaking and some wonderful online publications, but they have a non-profit arm as well. Making Me funds arts and media programs for adults creating new lives for themselves after confronting significant challenges (including mental illness).

What excites me most about isca is that its business and social goals are fully integrated. Taking on the film and publishing industries’ hypocrisy and obsession with the next big blockbuster idea, isca media believes it is possible to turn a profit and make the world a better place. What a concept, right? I believe it too, and I’m excited to be a part of it.

(Oh, and bonus! They’ve added a translation button at the top of each post, so you can read my isca pieces in any number of different languages. I just read my latest in Croatian. Woo hoo!)

In the real world, we don’t say that.

Okay, the real post is over at isca media today because, yes, I’m talking vaginas again. Wait, no. I’m talking the Vagina Monologues, but while we’re (not exactly) on the subject, I did think of this. People don’t really joke around about vaginas. They joke about penises, and with good reason, I think, because they’re funny. But not so much the other way around.

That’s all. Just thinking. It’s after 1 am. (That’s my disclaimer.) Go read me at isca media. I’m much saner over there. Promise.

(And thank you big time for all of you who have been commenting over there. I am feeling the love!)

My other blog is a Mercedes…

Okay so my real, exciting post today is over at isca media. It’s about my Director’s Assistant gig. I feel so important – in an absolutely second banana sort of way!

And recently Luke (of isca media) and I met to talk about what neato things I could write for them. (He didn’t say “neato.” He’s British. He probably said “smashing” or “fab.” Or, wait. That might have been me too. I do go on.) Anyway, we came up with some very cool spread-my-creative-wings sort of ideas that I can’t wait to try. Stay tuned for more!

(Now, go read me. I’m just a click away!)

I’ve got good news and bad news…

First, the good news…

I’m so excited to announce that I’ll be a regular contributing super guest blogger to isca media, a UK-based publishing collective of independent, freelance journalists, writers, photographers and filmmakers. (I made up my title. I haven’t run it by them yet. In my shitty first draft of the title I included the words “amazing,” “guru” and “erudite” but thought better of those upon revision.)

This week, I wrote my first post for them, The What Monologues? I hope you’ll go check it out. I think working with isca media is going to be great fun and will result, hopefully, in outlandish and wonderful stuff. Stay tuned…

In the meantime, an update in j-world. My son who is not The Boy (we’ll call him D, because, in fact, we do call him D) may have swine flu. I have no reason to believe the illness which came upon him suddenly this morning is swine flu other than the fact that it (swine flu) is going around, and according to my favorite Knower Of All Things, Craig Wieczorkiewicz, “more than 99 percent of circulating influenza viruses in the United States right now likely are 2009 H1N1.” So if it’s the flu he’s got, there is a less-than-1 percent chance it isn’t swine flu.

I am, of course, watching D like a (motherly) hawk, checking his temperature every few minutes, feeding him homemade chicken soup, wiping his clammy brow, fluffing his pillow. (Too much, right? I sensed I was going overboard. Was it the homemade chicken soup that strained my credibility? The part about being motherly?) In any case, I’m keeping a watchful eye on the situation and I will be right here complaining bitterly (but quite possibly in a metered and rhyming sort of way) if I catch the flu.

And also, totally using swine flu as my NaNoWriMo word count excuse. Think good, healing thoughts, people!
