A few days ago, a friend wrote to ask me how I was doing and what I was working on. I responded with a big, crazy list that made me feel two things: a) what a fun time this is, and b) holy shit, I better get crackin’.
So… I’m crackin’.
But here’s some cool stuff for you while I’m keeping my nose to the grindstone…
~~~~~
I added a doodles page to Zebra Sounds! I’m so excited about this. Go, gaze, comment, let your imagination spin out, and if you’re really inspired (or just love me), doodle me a picture!
On a related note, my astonishingly talented friend Pam Carlson is drawing a doodle a day. How great is that? You can see her doodles by following her on Twitter, @pcarlson001. Or you can keep an eye on her here because I keep stealing all my favorites. Like this one…
… and this one (which is a doodle of Pam protecting her “me-time” like a pirate, sword in mouth)…
(Note: There is a doodle love gallery at A Human Thing too, so if you feel like doodling some love, I can give it a good home.)
~~~~~
This picture, from the amazing Marcie Scudder, delights me.
The next act, a poem by Samantha Reynolds (aka, Bentlily), makes my insides hum.
And this one, untitled, from (birthday girl) Julia Fehrenbacher, is GORGEOUS.
~~~~~
I could go on and on, but I won’t. I’m supposed to be buckling down. I leave you with this, which I doodled just for you last night.
xo
Doodle power! Huzzah!
I love the photo & the poems. <3
I know. It’s kind of a perfect post – doodles, poetry and photos.
Love your doodley doo art!! Yes – dare to be different. Be brave!! Can’t wait to see and hear about all of your projects!!!
Thank you, Marcie! I’m feeling a little overwhelmed, but I’m actually one of those people who likes that feeling… to a point.
:~)
Dare of yes… egg the world on… show it your stripes
be bold… be daring… be blue… or green or yellow
love it when you tell us.. go look…… here… we do <3
Ha! If it helps, I’m very careful about what I tell you to go look at. <3
J, you are always so good at bringing things that cheer, inspire, comfort, and challenge. Thank you for taking a break from your greatness to make us smile, and smile big :-)
That’s a perfect list, TPM. I’d like to do all that… even more. Thank you for taking a break with me!
Ditto ;-) xoxo
Love Pam’s doodles! And Simon’s, Hip’s, Dillon’s etc! Wow, I’m slightly intimidated, since I can’t draw worth a darn, but I may doodle something now, I’m inspired! Love the poem, the imaginary garden, all of it. I am beginning to see the need for poetry in my life, it makes such a personal statement, makes me feel unique, does that make sense? I’ve never been a big fan of poetry to be honest. I mean the classics are nice, sure, but… before Twitter and our amazing friend Kathleen’s poems, and your posting (and writing) awesome poems… I’m beginning to see the power of them. Thanks J!
I think that’s what I like best about doodles… no real drawing talent required. I tell myself (when the end result looks nothing like the admittedly vague idea I started with), it’s fine! It’s a doodle! (I hope you draw one!)
Poetry. Me too. I’m not happy about it now, but I talked my adviser in college into letting me take a Novel-to-Film class instead of the Poetry Criticism class I should have had to take. I did it because poetry has always intimidated me, the classics too.
But Samantha’s project encouraged me to read a poem a day this year, and it’s been great. I’m trying to mix classics with new stuff. I don’t like everything I read, but some stuff I love. “Phenomenal Woman” by Maya Angelou gave me chills and made me feel empowered and gorgeous (so yes, your comment totally makes sense). Here’s the link for anyone that doesn’t get my AHT email letter. http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poem/178942
J, thank you for the cool stuff. I love the doodle art. And thank you for your sweet support. Big hugs to you, my love-filled friend.
You’re welcome! Thank you for the hugs! xo
If there were only 26 hours in the day, then this post would finally drive me, inspire me, to join your doodle reloveution (not sp). Alas, I haven’t been able to carve the extra hours out yet. Pam’s doodles are inspired, and I am pleasantly delighted to realize that she self-identifies as an anthropomorphized pirate mummy bunny. That’s kind of perfect. Don’t know why, but it is.
HINT: You can doodle while you watch hockey. :)
I feel like a total dolt. Forgot to mention Joanne and Dani’s poetry and I’m sure I’m missing others. Gah. #isuck #goingtoreadpoetrynow
Goofball. You were just being kind to me and not advertising other people’s blogs on mine; a mass exodus would break my heart. xoxo
This post, and the two beautiful poems, are a tonic to my tired but happy spirit. I will doodle for you, because I love you, but I’m going to have to be different and brave to get there…wink.
Oh, Nancy, I would LOVE a doodle from you! And I think being creative in unfamiliar ways is one of the best ways to be brave, my friend!
I love your doodles! They are so free and brave! :-)
