Going out in style

Welcome to Friday, everyone! This has been such a weird week for me. Wonderful and hard in equal measure… maybe that’s the bright side, huh?

So… I’ve been doing the Five On Friday posts for a while. They’re fun, but you know how I am. I get restless. In September I’m going to start something new – a “best of j’s week” kind of thing. No doubt there will still be cool websites, but there will also be… well, who knows, really? Whatever I loved during the week before. I anticipate photographs, overheard conversations, funny-touching-breath-taking tweets, stuff people have sent me (hint), moments that made me want to dance, moments when I DID dance, music, silliness, bravery, heart, soul…

I think it’ll be fun. I hope you’ll come check me out.

In the meantime, here is my final (for now) Five on Friday list.

  1. This video expresses so much of what I believe. It has inspired me to make a short film of my own. (Don’t worry, I have help this time. It won’t be as painful as my last one! Promise.)
  2. I don’t know anything about Jeff King, except that his photographs take my breath away. The link will land you in his “lifestyle” category, my favorite, but check out the others too. You won’t be sorry.
  3. And speaking of pictures, I adore this one of the Obamas.
  4. The Love Story of Danny and Annie makes me cry. We should all star in a love story like this.
  5. Soon after I got on Twitter, I developed a crush on @blackaddler because he’s smart and funny and I pictured him looking like Javier Bardem. He assures me he doesn’t, but he has started a blog and it’s full of all the things I like about him. Go. Read . (I added his blog to the blogroll in case you want to find him again.)

  1. rushing to my day
    but stopping along the way
the see what you have to share
    open and aware
    smiles of wonder
    and tears of joy
all in one moment in time

have to rush out the door but will come back to explore more of the wonders you shared today

    you rock Judy ~ :~)
    have a stupendous day

  2. Awww! Sweet! I love when you unleash poetry on me! Yes, come back. My last list is one of my best, I think.

  3. Wow, what a way to “go out in style” J! I thought, I wowed, I cried, I laughed. Pretty hard to do in the matter of a few – well I guess I’ve been her 20 minutes, watching everything you posted, but wow. I am now sitting here – with mixed emotions really. Sad and happy and thoughtful. I guess that’s a bit like a microcosm of life isn’t it? Pretty amazing. I want a love like Danny and Annie, to hold hands in the way the Obamas do. I want to see the beauty like Kate does, I want to catch and appreciate the juxtaposition of good and bad, pretty and not so pretty, strong and week, like Jeff and I want to laugh and laugh and feel smart like I do when I read Jon’s blog. Yes, I got all of that out of your last 5 on Friday. <3 you J! your sparkly awesomeness was just what I needed this morning. xox

    • Oh, Caroline. I just spent a half hour crying into my morning pages, and then read this. You have no idea how much this is exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you! You are pretty (motherfucking) sparkly awesome yourself. xo

  4. kevin (aka cookerguy)

    You are too cool.

  5. I know (knew?) Jeff King very well. He was a saxophone player at the University of Miami when I was there. I was one of few people that could get him out of the house; I used to take him to the Keys, Everglades. He didn’t photograph anything then. We used to talk of moving to LA; he did,I didn’t. Today has some highfalutin position at 19 Entertainment (American Idol).

    • Wow! I feel in the know now. There was hardly any information in his bio. I randomly clicked a link someone tweeted and discovered his site. I should have known he played the saxophone. Something about you guys…

    • p.s. Not surprised at all that you could get him out of the house. ;-)

  6. I loved the “All My Days” video! Just this week I was introduced (via twitter, to the song by Alexi Murdoch). When the song started playing on the video, I got a little chill and thought…wow, small world. Then, as I am reading the comments I see the link between migroddy and the Jeff King (whose photography was gorgeous).

It is a small world, afterall.

    • I was listening to the song again this week too. I like that… speaks to our cosmic connection. ;-) I think Miguel knows all the cool kids. So, we do too. One degree of separation!

  7. What a beautiful list! I’m honored to be there. ~ with big love ~ Kate

  9. “Life is too tender and funny to be missed.” Says it all for me!

Love the Obamas’ hands, too. Beautiful.

    Thanks, J!

  10. A FABulous Five on Friday List to finish with, j! I’m hoping that you will bring it back now and then. I loved every single item. I must say that No. 5 @BlackAddler’s blog was the best. He gave you credit for “bothering him” to start a blog, so I thank you. I’m really looking forward to seeing your “best of j’s week” posts. As always, j’s sparkly awesomeness rules! Love you! *Big Squishy Excited for Something New Hugs*

    • I can be quite bothersome, it’s true. I think he secretly likes it. And me, because I DO look like Javier Bardem.

  11. “Life is too tender and funny to be missed.”
    and as Rumi says
Rise up nimbly and go on your strange journey!

    unleashing poetry on the world
can’t wait to see where you spin next
can’t wait to read your book
and when I close my eyes I see your cape flapping in the wind
    soar high….

  12. Javier Bardem I’m not. I would like to have one of those air gun thingies he used in No Country for Old Men, though. Oh, the fun I could have and trouble I could get into with that.

Thanks for all the support you have given to my blog launch. You’re a mensch. Don’t make me fall in love with you.

    Wait…too late.

  13. What will September bring? I can’t wait to find out. That poor month has big shoes to fill.
    You keep us all smiling.

  14. Ours is a completely reciprocal relationship then!

Let's talk.
