It would be too weird to not do a thanks-giving post on Thanksgiving Day. So here goes.
I am grateful for…
- My family and friends, of course, more than I can express. I am surrounded by love.
- Pizza, cheese, chocolate, coffee.
- Great books, movies, plays. Great wine.
- Sunshine, rain, music.
- Twitter (Yes, Twitter. The people I follow are awesome. They reassure me, encourage me, and provide emergency cooking instructions.)
- Beaches, mountains, woods… picnic blankets.
- Converse, Victoria’s Secret, Indie bookstores (hang in there!), latte art.
- Lipstick
- My body, which is miraculous in that it does almost everything I ever ask it to do without complaint.
- My ever-expanding world, and the people I’m meeting and working with now – funny, smart, provocative, creative. I am growing in their presence.
- You guys, the people who read and comment on Zebra Sounds. I love writing here, but the best part isn’t creating new posts, it’s the fun, thoughtful, sometimes wild conversations that follow.
Oh! And cheesecake. I’m really, really, really, grateful for cheesecake.
I’m sure there’s more but I’d rather hear your list. What are you grateful for today?

I was reading your post thinking “Cheesecake! Where’s the cheesecake?!??” Glad to see it made the list in true “j” fashion.
I guess I have to say that I am thankful for where I am in life. Not perfect by far, but I’m enjoying the journey. Even the tough stuff brings with it a strength that makes even them beneficial.
i’m also thankful for Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia ice cream bars. They just make me happy. There are other things like that that make me happy: baby Reese’s, my baby laugh ringtone, cooking for family and friends, dreaming… I’m thankful for all of that.
I’m also thankful for all the people in my life: those that I know and know me deeply, and those that are just getting to know me, and me them. Those that I am getting to know all over again. Those that exist in my mind, and those that can invade my soul…
This may sound like “duh!…”, but I’m thankful for life itself. Not for just existing (I did that for years, thank you), but for living and experiencing life. Waking up thinking there is a new adventure, a new dream to be fulfilled, a new day to run and dance with. Who knows what can be created, experienced, pondered or loved when the day begins? It gives each day an excitement and expectation that mere existence cannot touch.
Of course, I must say that I am thankful for ZS, and for the superhero j, that gives us a place to land, play, dance, and have fun with all of these wonderful thoughts.
There’s more, like good cartoons, CBR, and high speed internet, but I won’t bore you with those :-)
Oh! And good peach cobbler! I’m a sucker for it (when it’s good… it’s not always good… but when it is, Oh, momma!)
I’m with TPM. I thought, “what about cheesecake?” (Clever girl…keeping us all reading to the very end.)
I’ll not bore you with a list of what I’m thankful for, but suffice it to say that the one at the top of the list knows who she is.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here (we miss out on all the cool holidays… at least we do have Christmas!)
However I’m grateful for:
- my family and friends (I think everyone is, except maybe if they hate them :P)
- my blog turning into what it is now, love how it evolved, and me with it
- and more things come to mind, but I think it’s enough if I say that I’m grateful for everything good in my life :)
TPM, Your “duh” paragraph is wonderful, and I feel the same way right now. I often feel the only thing limiting me now is my own fears, and I just keep breaking them down… with a little help from my friends. ;-)
CMW, That thing I did with the cheesecake (No, CMW, not THAT thing… the thing in the post, saving it until last), that’s tension, baby. I’m such a writer!
Estrella, I’ve just been popping around your blog, actually, and you should be proud of it! It is evolving right along with you. And you’re both awesome!
I could post a “I’m Thankful for” list that was miles long, but . . . I will stick to a top few:
I am Thankful for:
–my hubby. He is pretty awesome. And I am very lucky to have him.
–my cat. Same goes, she is awesome and I am lucky.
–my family
–my friends
Thanks, J!
Terre, You did the easy ones. One more, please. Something sparkly?
Well, of course, I did easy ones. They are always on the forefront of my mind. And they are the ones that I say thanks for every night. I had one more, but was trying not to sound like an advertisement, but it is VERY sparkly.
I am thankful for Nia because it is a great workout. You can adopt it into your life as a practice. I allows you to be sparkly OR whatever your heart desires AND I have met many, many people because of it.
I really could fill up the blog with all that I am thankful for, I am truly blessed.
I’m kind of a day late and a dollar short here, but I was just reading some of what I missed and I wanted to put my two cents in (now I’m a$1.02 short ;-)
Of course, I am thankful for what most are: Health, Hope/Faith, Family, Friends, Felines (haha). What Terre wrote after you asked her for ‘one more, ‘sparkly’ something’ really made me think because I believe she has in Nia what you, Judy, have in your writing which is Passion and Purpose. I am still searching for that. However, one thing that was not mentioned, which I often feel that I could not go on without is Music. I am so thankful for music and that I can easily access it. It truly nourishes my being.
Also, if I can indulge, I want to write here that I am thankful for a Priest named John who I feel saved my life (and I do not mean my soul, I mean my breathing life) about 2 years ago through his selfless generosity of spirit and kindness. I do not expect to make it to Heaven, or at least not the ‘Catholic’ Heaven ;-) I have opposite views from the church (and Christians in general) on many issues, but I want to put that out there for the record because I know Priests have such a stigma attached to them. I for one have never met a better human being than that man (he spends his ‘vacation’ helping the poor and talks about it like he was in Disneyland, etc., the list goes on).
Thank you Judy for giving me the chance to write that here and for always ‘listening’/reading what I write when I post — it’s like you are this little sprite hiding in the secret world of the Internet and you Spring Up to listen and encourage every day :-) I’m so thankful for you and the gift of your writing, humor, insight, and the way you share your enthisiasm for daily discoveries!
Terre, I love to hear you talk about Nia. Your passion is so clear; it doesn’t sound like an advertisement. You are doing what you love. Not a lot of people can say that.
Carey, For what it’s worth (and it’s not much I know, since I am not a religious person), I can’t imagine that disagreement with the Catholic church would keep you out of heaven if there’s a heaven to get to.
And you have no idea how grateful I am that you take the time to write here on the blog. It is definitely I who should be thanking you. Big, big hugs!
