It’s Saturday, time for me to post “stuff that makes me smile.” I seem to keep doing this in threes. Here are three smiley things!
First, driving home in commute traffic Thursday, feeling that meandering unfocused frustration that commute traffic can induce, I heard a segment on NPR called Summer Songs. Apparently, they’ve been doing the segment all summer, though this is the first time I’d heard it. It is a series of personal stories inspired by songs of summertime from musicians, writers and listeners. This one, from Thursday, completely charmed me – took me right out of traffic and plopped me into my own childhood summers. Listen to the segment here. (It’s just a couple of minutes.) You’ll smile. (Also, on the bottom are all the past segments in the series. I’m making my way through them, one a day, so they last.)
Second, I was curious when I got home to see Frankie Valli hit the high notes in Sherry Baby (one of the featured songs in the NPR segment). I popped over to YouTube when I got home to see it, and I found this. Warning: Extreme cuteness. Brace yourself.
And finally, some vacation shots for you. Because, yeah. Vacations make me smile!

Haha! Another smile. I found my cellphone in the refrigerator this morning, where I’d tucked it last night, with Lexi’s dog treats after our walk. (Think I’m generally distracted, or what?)
You posted that just for me didn’t you?
I CAN SEE YOUR TAN.
giggling.
Cute suit. And there’s no way that a notebook even a BIG notebook tucked into your bikini could have made your butt look big …..
I feel so special….
giggling more.
And for all the guys…close your mouths. You’ll swallow a bug.
hugs missy. That made my day.
big big smile
I can feel the serenity of the moment with you and your dog. (and you could skip a rock a long way on that water.)

A girl and her dog saying goodbye to summer.
You left your phone in the fridge? Well, I’ve heard of worse but am gagged by a non-disclosure clause.
Very cute rendition of Sherry Baby too. I’m wondering what the Ohhh no is about and Terre is slighly mad that they don’t tell us.
I’m guessing he says “oh no” because just realized he missed a line?
When I see multiple layers in the sediment, it always makes me think about the eons it took to create all those layers. It makes me remember to enjoy the “geological micro-second” that is us.

Love that video and especially the photos, Lake Don Pedro looks amazing.
The most fun I had with your comment though! You really had me laughing aloud there not just smiling ;)
Thank you! Hugs and kisses!
Re: the phone in the refrigerator — it’s not unusual to do things like that when one is having as life changing event as a parent seeming vulnerable. In a weird way, I think it’s a good sign — a sign that you are paying attention to the underneath things.
Karen – you’re supposed to be noticing the pretty sunset and me and my dog – not my butt! (But thank you!)
Kid, The Boy skipped a LOT of rocks over vacation. You’d have been proud.
John, I know! When the video ends, you’re thinking, “Wait, what? What’s wrong with that cute little guy!” Still… best Sherry Baby rendition EVER!
CMW, It is pretty amazing… even if I don’t always remember the geological significance.
Estrella, It made me laugh too. Thank you for the hugs and kisses! They are just what I need!
Wolfwriter, That’s a nice way to look at it – that I’m appropriately focused. Thank you.
I did notice the pretty sunset, and the pretty sedimentary layers, and the pretty reflection in the water.
They just paled in comparison.
;0)
Awww, Karen, that’s why I love you!
