My Bloggiesta!

One of the blogs I like to visit is Jocelyn Peyton’s Biblioaddict. I can spend a lot of time there. She’s a great writer and she writes about books – one of my favorite subjects. She has read (and written up!) 27 books in the first half of this year! That amazes me. And reading isn’t the only thing she does, which makes it even more amazing.

This is not a post about Biblioaddict, I just couldn’t help myself. It’s a post about not posting. A few days ago, Jocelyn embarked on a bloggiesta, a 48-hour period in which bloggers everywhere were invited to “catch up on all the blog-related stuff they’ve been meaning to do for months, maybe years.” When I read all that she intended to do with her 48 hours, I had serious blog envy. However, lacking both the skills and time to do anything that awesome here, I’m entering my own bloggiesta with more modest goals (adding a page, modifying a page, playing with widgets, updating my blogrolls and weblinks, etc.)

Sadly, this has all been a long-winded way of saying, I don’t have a real post today, though I’m working on one I think you’ll love (it tastes like cupcakes), and I’ll be back tomorrow with Caption This!

Until then, feel free to say hi, or wish me luck, or tell me what fabulous feature you wish I had on Zebra Sounds.  Teeth whitener? Waist whittler? Push-button tanning? A Chinese food delivery service? Dry cleaning? You name it, and I will give it all the thoughtful consideration it deserves!

And now for something completely different… Check out this quick slide show by Chip Kidd, novelist and Associate Art Director at Alfred A. Knopf, of his seven favorite book covers since 2000. I love the covers (and most of the books themselves) and Kidd’s writeup on each one. Very cool.

  1. Oh I wish you great accomplishments! Whatever is on your to-do list that is keeping you away, I hope you get it done!

Also, even when you are not “blogging” or posting a real post you are funny and entertaining.

    Have wonderful day!

  2. What synchonicity, I just did some of these things this morning … like updating my Friends Who Write links. Much more fun than housework.

  3. Terre, You’re so sweet! Thank you. For you, I’ll add the Instant-Asparagus-on-a-plate widget!

Linda, I LOVE your blog (just got back from there, actually), your thoughts about writing, the questions you ask, the little bit of angst you share. It’s such a lonely thing – writing. It’s nice to know there are others out there just like me!

  4. Judy,
I think you should add a euphemism generator. Yes, I know that there are already euphemism generators out there…but your generator would have a twist…all of the euphemisms would be clean…or about vegetables…which could get dicey, but only if you don’t keep your eyes peeled.
I think that we [your minions] would get a lot of use out of it….and it would certainly bring traffic to your site….

Good luck constructing whatever flight of fancy you have been taken with…..and I can’t wait to taste the new cupcake…I mean post. (it’s a chocolate one isn’t it?…)

  5. Break a leg! Hope you’ll have enough cupcake for everyone who visits (may I suggest chocolate and glazed ones?) Okay… now I’m craving for cupcakes, but it’s night time over here so I can’t start baking now :P

About the bloggiesta: I often have them, especially when I have too much work and I don’t really get near my PC for a few days. Then I start catching up on my reading and more so on my commenting :)
You have a nice rest, and I’m waiting for those cupcakes :D

  6. Karen, A euphemism generator! I love that idea. Not as cool as a widget that scrapes things off other things, but pretty darned neato.

Estrella, Sleep well! I might not have cupcakes for you when you come back, but I will have a Caption This pic.

  7. I often think of subjects that I wish I could see a Judy comment on — or ask you to dissect the meaning of something. Now, I’m drawing a blank. Although, at that moment, I would like to know if anyone has tips on how to Stop Becoming my Parents (their bad sides . . . I wish I had more of their good sides). The funny thing is that I only see myself being like my Parents (bad sides) when I am Parenting. Is that typical?

Oh, and by the way, I keep meaning to mention how cool Estrella Azul’s name is!!! You know that means Star Blue, right??!! How awesome is that? You could ask people what they would like their alias or pen name to be. I used to want mine to be ‘Reva’ which means Revive/to regain Life — something that I’m really needing right now. Then I decided that Reva sounds too much like Reba and I look a little bit like her sometimes and I actually think she looks like a goofy red-headed bunny or elf. Now, I’m fancying a name like Roxanne/Roxy or maybe Laetitia.

Oh, and to answer your question, no I haven’t been drinking ;-) I am very sleep deprived though and still have work to do :-( Thanks for providing me with a little cyber break.

  8. Carey, You’re delightful! Take your breaks here anytime! (Oh, and good blog topic suggestions. Watch for them soon.)

  9. Judy, excuse me please, sometimes when I read Carey’s “stuff” I just want to hug her. She is so . . . .funny . . . all over . . . .yet focused. . . . she is so funny. So, excuse me (I hope I am not commiting a blog infraction) while I virtual hug our Miss Carey.

Oh delightful is the perfect word Judy. Thank you.

  10. Terre you are just too kind and of course we know Judy is such a cool lady she would never accuse anyone of a blog infraction ;-) You have the ‘funny all over’ party right, like funny as in ‘there’s something funny about that girl’ . . . the focused part really got me. I hope that is your Nia Psychic Connection/Premonition coming through because I want nothing more in this world than to be focused and I am currently about as focused as a hyperactive 4-year old (on Red Bull). It’s so nice to have Judy’s Blog/Zebra Sounds to vent a little madness sometimes and also the way it/she seems to spark thoughts in our minds that may never have been born if not for the flick of her little magic idea wand ;-) She’s like one of the Muse Goddesses from Greek Mythology. I’m sure if I were to see you dance, I’d find you have the same quality! I send you hugs back for the much needed positive words!

Let's talk.
