Usually, when it’s time to write a post, I have all these things I want to talk about, and the hard part is narrowing it down to just one. Other times, I sit down to write and discover, much to my horror, that, although my brain is teaming with thoughts, none of them are blog worthy. Just now, for instance, I looked under the ol’ mental hood and all I found were random thoughts about my upcoming haircut, my lack of appropriate footwear, my regret for not having learned to play the piano, my inexplicable animosity toward pineapple.
You see? Nothing.
So here’s a j-list of five things I wish I knew more about because if I did, I’d write a kick-ass post that would not try your patience.
- The Middle East. We should all know about that.
- Baseball… A couple of times a year, I go watch the minor league San Jose Giants play. I absolutely love minor league baseball. When I go, I always go with my mom. I sit next to her so she can explain what the hell is happening on the field between bagel tosses, and dance contests, and (earworm alert) singing about how much we like to stay at the Y-M-C-A. (It’s fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A!)
… And, if I could blog about baseball, my mother would no longer have to ask herself why she keeps coming back here. - Space. Yesterday, at dinner with friends, Chad started talking about space, the macro and the micro universe. He loves space, and he’s good at talking about it, and still I found myself trying to remember the name of the actor with the crooked teeth who played opposite the really tall actress in the movie about the horse.
… And, if I blogged about space, Chad would no longer have to ask himself why he keeps coming back here. - Movies. If I knew more about movies, I would never ever say things like “you know, the actor with the crooked teeth who played opposite the really tall actress in the movie about the horse.”
… And, if I blogged about movies, my son might no longer have to ask himself why he keeps coming back here. - Science. Because… wait. I know ALL about science. Never mind.
What do you wish you knew more about? At this point, I’m taking requests…

And now for something completely different… Check out 40 stunning sand sculptures. These will more than make up for my trying your patience.

Wild
Very funny Judy.
I sometimes idly wonder about the uvula. You know that little wobbly thing that dangles down at the back of your throat.
Before today I never actually took the time to go look up what it does.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palatine_uvula
Now I have, and it’s all because of you ….and I have to say….the pictures were GROSS.
:)
Now I have a movie worm, because I’m sure I’ve seen that movie with the actor with the crooked teeth who played opposite the really tall actress in the movie about the horse.
And those sand sculptures were, well, wow! I followed another link http://www.fiesa.org/ from the site you linked. If you liked what you saw, then you will like this too. Once there, click on the British flag (to get english translation), then click on gallery. There are several with people looking at the work so you get a great sense of scale.

To generalize, I wish I knew more about everything I know now (okay, a bit philosophical) but to answer your question too, I’d love to knwo more about space also.
The statues are amazing! :)
Karen, I love the “Function in Voice” section which says, in essence, Anita O’Day blamed her missing uvula for her lack of vibrato, but she’s a big fat liar because the uvula doesn’t have anything to do with that. Now I know!
CMW, Beach trip! Let’s make a giant sand Zebra (one that sings vibrato without an uvula)! My blog will be this amazing, sandy, multi-media event! Be still my wild, creative heart!
Estrella, I like it when you’re philosophical.
Wow. There are soooooooo many things I wish I knew more about. But since you listed five, I thought I could keep my post to five. These are not necessarily in order:
1. Websites and their creation; HTML, CSS, and all the other stuff.
2. Kinesiology. I love that stuff and would love to know more, more, more. Can’t get enough.
3. Wine. Love THAT stuff too and would like to know more, more, more!
4. Blogging. I love that I learn not only about a million different things from you, but I learn about blogging in and of itself. (Thanks!)
5. Cooking and creating food. All fun stuff.
And just because I like to say if for all your readers to see: YOU ARE AWESOME. Even though all your readers know that, I like to say it!
Ohohohoh! I am so excited — there’s something that Judy wants to know more about that I know way toooo much about . . . ask me about any movie and even if I don’t know the answer I will be thrilled to figure it out for you! That and music trivia . . . but don’t ask me about Algebra or Geometry.
Terre, good list. I agree with everything on it. Even cooking, which is, for me, a spectator sport. And thank you for the compliment! What a great note right before I sleep! I think I will dream well!
Carey, You know about a lot of things I want to know more about! Movies and music, huh? Good to know!
an interesting question, as always judy! there are at least five areas i’d like more knowledge in. and even more skills i’d like to acquire (but i’ll save the skills list, in case you ask another time. i don’t want to skip ahead.)
1) physics: gravity, i understand. the rest – not so much.
2) world history, especially, the middle east: why-o-why, did we spend so much time studying the crusades in school and no time studying the middle east? seriously, when has knowledge of the crusades ever been helpful, other than while watching monty python movies?
3) world religions: i find the similarities between religions fascinating. i think we’d all be much more understanding and respectful, if we just realized how similar our beliefs are.
4) the ocean: it’s my favorite place on earth and one of the least explored places in the universe. (did you know science knows more about space than the oceans?)
5) space: but only after i’ve finished learning everything about the oceans. ;-)
now if i could only get that matrix upload, i’d be a super-genius!
Time travel and parallel universes. I have a strong suspicion that one of these are involved in missing keys and single socks.
kid
JB, Great list! We could be study partners. (Except while you read up on Physics, I’ll be watching baseball.)
Kid, Time travel makes my head explode. I truly have a mental block. And anyway, I already know that we lose our keys and socks because we’re muggles… they are in a parallel universe that begins down Diagon Alley.
